privacy
What this website does (and does not do) with your data.
This is a personal academic website. It is built to collect as little as possible about its visitors.
What this site does not do
- No cookies.
- No analytics, tracking pixels, fingerprinting or advertising.
- No third-party scripts. The only script is a small file from this site that powers the light/dark button. It never sends anything anywhere.
- No third-party resources. Fonts (the Inter and Fraunces typefaces), icons, styles and images are all served from this domain. Nothing is loaded from CDNs, Google Fonts, social networks or any other external service, so visiting a page does not contact anyone except the server hosting this site.
- No embeds, forms or comment systems.
These guarantees are enforced technically: every page ships with a Content Security Policy that forbids the browser from loading anything from other domains, and a referrer policy that prevents your browser from telling other sites that you came from here.
The light/dark button
By default the site follows your device’s light or dark setting and stores nothing. If you
use the button to pick the opposite theme, your browser remembers that choice locally
(the word “light” or “dark” under the key theme in local storage) so the next page opens in
the same theme. It stays on your device and is never sent to me or anyone else. Picking your
device’s theme again deletes it, and so does clearing this site’s data in your browser.
This storage only happens at your request, so it needs no consent banner.
Hosting
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. According to GitHub’s documentation, when a GitHub Pages site is visited, the visitor’s IP address is logged and stored by GitHub for security purposes. I do not have access to these logs and do not use them. GitHub acts under its own privacy statement.
External links
Links to other websites (for example Google Scholar, ORCID, LinkedIn or publishers) are plain links. Nothing from those sites is loaded until you click one, after which their own privacy policies apply.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (and the Swiss FADP) you have the right to access, rectify and erase personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Since this site does not itself collect personal data, requests about server logs should be addressed to GitHub. For anything else, feel free to contact me through the links on the home page.
